Value Drawing 3/20
In this unit, we learned how to draw with graphite, compressed charcoal, and various charcoal pencils. We practiced by drawing spheres, facial features, and drawing value scales. We were assigned to bring in an object, take pictures, and draw from that as our reference. I chose graphite for this drawing because there were specific textures and smaller details in the photo that I feel would be more difficult to recreate with charcoal. I tried to make my composition interesting by playing with texture and placing a glossy object on a wooden table. A problem I had while making this drawing was getting the values as dark as I needed them to be. I solved this by adding value in layers, and I used weighted pencils to get a wide range of values. I also struggled in making the pumpkin appear glossy like it does in the photo without leaving it completely white, and I believe that I was successful in that.
